En-ROADS climate action simulation with Princeton Energy and Climate Scholars

less than 1 minute read

Published:

For the past few years, I’ve been using the En-ROADS simulator inside and outside the classroom to teach some of the challenges of climate policay. I wrote an article for Princeton Highwire Earth about a recent experience running the “Climate action simulation” with the Princeton Energy and Climate Scholars (PECS). Check it out here.

New Outreach Events in Philly

This summer, I got a group of Princeton graduate students from the Geosciences department and Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences program to put on rotating tank experiment demonstrations at the Independence Seaport Museum in Philadalphia. The tank set up is this really cool, low-cost design created by DIYnamics that was really approachable to guests.

High-resolution spatial and temporal measurements of particulate organic carbon flux using thorium-234 in the northeast Pacific Ocean during the EXport Processes in the Ocean from RemoTe Sensing field campaign

Published in Elementa: Science of the Anthropocene, 2020

More than 950 measurements of thorium-234, the naturally occurring radionuclide used as a tracer of sinking particle flux, were made during August–September 2018 at Ocean Station Papa in the northeast Pacific Ocean. High-resolution vertical sampling enabled observations of the spatial and temporal evolution of particle flux in Lagrangian fashion. This work sets the foundation for understanding controls on the biological carbon pump during this EXPORTS campaign.

Concentrations, ratios, and sinking fluxes of major bioelements at Ocean Station Papa

Published in Elementa: Science of the Anthropocene, 2021

Fluxes of major bioelements associated with sinking particles were quantified in late summer 2018 as part of the EXport Processes in the Ocean from RemoTe Sensing (EXPORTS) field campaign near Ocean Station Papa in the subarctic northeast Pacific. The thorium-234 method was used in conjunction with size-fractionated (1–5, 5–51, and >51 mm) concentrations of particulate nitrogen (PN), total particulate phosphorus (TPP), biogenic silica (bSi), and particulate inorganic carbon (PIC) collected using large volume filtration via in situ pumps.

Ecosystem impacts of marine heat waves in the northeast Pacific

Published in Biogeosciences, 2022

Here we explain the contrast between the subpolar NE Pacific and the transition zone to the south of it using a global ocean biogeochemical model (MOM6-COBALT) with Argo float and ship-based observations to investigate how MHWs influence marine productivity.

Asst. Programs Manager

K-12, Riverbend Environmental Education Center, 2017

Approved curriculum for k-12 summer camp, field trip and after school activities. Provided training on ages and stages to all educational staff.

QUEST 2023

Workshop, Princeton University, 2023

Questioning Underlies Effective Science Teaching (QUEST) with Princeton Teacher Prep. This innovative program is designed to enhance teachers’ knowledge of science and mathematics through laboratory experiments and experiences aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards.

Assistant Instructor ENV-367 2023

Undergraduate Class, Princeton University, 2023

I helped design and lead this course on earth system modeling for students interested in global environmental issues. Students used results from a climate model emulator to examine how the system responds to human activities and natural climate variations.
